NutriPaige Garden Party

Us Brits love to cling onto any glimmer of summer we can get, and chance of pure sunshine for one (whole) day, only means one thing.. It's time for a BBQ. Now although it's great to let you hair down at times, having a BBQ does not mean you have to hover over the plates full of meat and linger near the potato salad. I have tried and tested a couple of recipes that are great to bring along to a garden party, or even if you are hosting one yourself!

Champagne with Pomegranate What's a party without a champagne reception? Guests arrive to a glass of champagne with a teaspoon of pomegranate in for flavour. You can sip away, or eat as you sip(which my party guests opted for) along with a refreshing Fruit Cocktail Skewer.

Fruit Cocktail Skewers Fruit Cocktail Skewers are so simple to make, and you can use any fruit you desire. I went for a combination of Apple, Grapes, Melon, Pineapple, Strawberry and Mango, they went down a treat.20140709-010028 pm-46828681.jpg

Prawn and Hummus Wholemeal Wraps on SticksA vegetarian option that is delicious for everyone. All you need is wholemeal wraps, toothpicks, bell peppers, organic hummus, and a prawn mixture of lemon and lime juice with mango and seasoned with pepper. 20140716-123024 pm-45024177.jpgQuinoa and Roasted Veg Medley

If you have been following my blog you know I am a huge fan of Quinoa, its a great source of carbs, fibre and protein and is super delicious. You make it just like rice, boil in water until the water is fully absorbed. I do 1/2 cup of water per 1/4 quinoa serving. Whilst that is boiling, I fried aubergine, peppers and courgettes in olive oil before mixing it all together. This is a great dish to bring along to any party, i guarantee everyone will be surprised how much they enjoy it!

I love this method of 'finger food' as it makes it so easy for people to eat standing up, without a plate, without having to worry about cutlery. I made plain chicken with mango slice or bell pepper. The chicken does not have to be plain grilled. I fried sliced pieces in coconut oil with a generous helping of juice from a lemon for extra flavour.20140716-122841 pm-44921417.jpg

Very Berry Yoghurt A big, yummy batch of yoghurt will always go down well. You can see a previous post on the best Yoghurt to buy and why. The trouble with flavoured yoghurts is that they are full of sugars, colourings and preservative. I wanted to make this plain yoghurt flavoured, the natural way! I grabbed a 1kg tub of Total 0' Greek Yoghurt and poured into a bowl and set aside. I mushed up a couple of handfuls of raspberries in my hand and added to the yoghurt. I then added some honey and slithered almonds to the mix and stirred it all in. To finish off, garnish with blueberries and raspberries.

Coconut Water on Ice Coconut water is so delicious, bursting with electrolytes and has more potassium in than a banana which helps keep the body hydrating. On a hot day, especially if a few alcoholic beverages are being consumed, be sure to keep having glasses of coconut or regular water to prevent dehydration.

Salad mix Now, no summer dish is complete without a little side salad. Salads are great because you can throw whatever you want in there! In this salad i used raw spinach, lettuce, rocket, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes with pecans and dried cranberries.

Lemon Infused Water Not everybody is a huge lover of Coconut Water, so it's best to have an alternative. A jug of iced water with slices of lemon is totally refreshing and has antioxidant properties along with putting your body in an alkaline state. This is a great option for those of you who struggle to enjoy water, adding a bit of flavour can really help.

Although her specialty are in the sugar treat department, they are DELICIOUS. Keeping in theme with my NutriPaige Garden Party, she kindly offered to baked some healthy brownies.
