I wanted to share a few facts with you about buying healthy food. I always get told 'but healthy food is so expensive!' and it can be yes, but making little changes and being smart with your choices, really would not have a huge effect on your bank balance. I am using the classic Dairy Milk bar vs a Banana as an example of comparison.
1 x Dairy Milk bar: 60p Ingredients: Milk, sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, vegetable fats (palm, shea), emulsifiers (E442, E476), flavourings Nutritional Information: 240 kcals, 25g Sugar ,12.5g Fat, 8.3g Sat Fat, 0.1g Salt Health benefits: Absolutely nothing. apart from that it tastes good... The amount of sugar in this 1 bar of chocolate will spike your insulin levels so rapidly, and they will drop at the same speed, and you will crave even more. You need to train yourself to stop relying on artificial sugars for energy.
1 x Banana: 25p ingredients: 1 Banana Nutritional Information: 100kcals, 14g Sugar, 0g Fat, 0.1g Sat Fat, 14' dietary fibre (which is great :)) , Health Benefits: The natural sugars in a Banana replenish energy levels, it can be argued that 14g of sugar is high for a piece of fruit, which it is. However by consuming in the morning your body has enough time to use the energy and burn the sugar as it is working. It is a natural sugar that should not get confused with added sugars. Magnesium for bone strength, Potassium which helps control the heart rate and blood pressure, rich in vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful oxygen-free radicals.
I hope this post helps you understand the principles of healthy eating a little easier. It is not about taking away all foods, it is about replacing them with better ones. If you can cut the intake of processed food you will see a world of difference to your waistline, complexion, hair, nails and energy.
Stay healthy! P xo
