New reports have come in informing us we should increase our fruit and veg intake from 5-a-day to 7-a-day, which I believe to be a great observation. Fruit and vegetables are loaded with the essential vitamins and minerals for your body to function at its best. The government are not trying to trick you or make you feel inadequate for not reaching this target, they have your health as the priority and so should we all. The overall view on this is to include fruit and especially vegetables into every meal and snack you eat. Yes stocking up on fresh vegetables can be expensive and maybe increase the amount of times you go food shopping in a week but consuming fresh produce is crucial for a healthy lifestyle. Are vegetables too expensive? Yes they are, for a society that is focusing on living the healthiest life, vegetables need to be more affordable. However, if you are buying fresh produce instead of confectionary, you are not adding onto your daily shopping budget, you are replacing your unhealthy snacks. The point of recommending more vegetables is trying encourage healthy swaps. Put down the chocolate cookies and pick up some fruit and vegetables!! :)
